Experience Yosemite’s solitude backcountry ski and stay at the mountain cabin. The Yosemite Winter Club – Cross Country Ski Section has been active for decades. Its primary purpose is to provide supported ski trips.
The members of the Club pack and deliver caches into the various huts and cabins located throughout Yosemite in the late fall and retrieve them in the spring. Thus the members are able to ski with a much lighter packs containing only lunch, snacks, and sleeping bags.
Members have years of cross country skiing experience, including backcountry skiing, and are excited to teach others who wish to learn and experience the thrill of skiing into the back country of Yosemite in the middle of winter. Come view at least 40 years of trips throughout Yosemite, learn about how the ski equipment has developed over the years and the opportunities to learn how to cross country ski or broaden your knowledge of cross country skiing into the back country realm.

Summary of Ski & Snowboard Movies And Film Screenings Coming to the San Francisco Bay Area
Mt Rose and Boreal Mountain resorts are now opened. Other Tahoe resorts to follow next week.
What’s there to do between now and then? Mark your calendar and gather some friends to watch a ski and ride movie to get excited for the coming snow season.
The 2016-17 snow season was truly epic breaking record snowfall levels enabling Mammoth and Squaw Valley USA resort ski lifts to spin until July 4. Let’s hope the 2017-18 snow season will be just as spectacular.
Watch ski & snowboard films/movies and get a free Tahoe area resort lift ticket*. Also at most film screenings, get a chance to win swag, prizes and ski/ride destination trips.
*Most showings will give out a free mid-week non-holiday lift ticket or a 2 for 1 lift ticket aka BOGO (buy one, get one) coupon/voucher.
Why it’s best to play hooky and go skiing and riding mid-week? Priceless perks...
(1) Powder days usually happened when we least expect it: on weekdays 🙂
(2) Tahoe resorts on weekdays: you basically have the entire mountain to yourself
(3) Services such as eateries and ski/snowboard lessons are more enjoyable/less rush/less crowded (you bascially get a semi-private lesson for the cost of a group lesson b/c there are less sign-ups on weekdays) and quality of service is so much better
(4) No waiting in line to get on the lifts and no waiting in line for lunch or drinks
(5) Resort parking is a breeze; no road traffic on weekdays
Screenings: Wednesday October 25, 2017 @ AMC VAN NESS 14, SF, California. Buy tickets.

This one starts in a way that’ll be familiar to ski-film connoisseurs: aspirational voiceover and some cinematic ski porn. As the epic-movie-trailer-voice starts listing superlatives (bigger, deeper, gnarlier), it starts to get self-aware and ironic: Thank God, they’re joking! Drop Everything looks to do an amusing job of poking fun at ski movies that are too serious or trying a little too hard to draw meaning out of what’s happening (which is…a lot of skiing). The trailer is punctuated with full-screen titles making declarations about what this film has that others don’t, like “90 percent less interviews with athletes” and “100 percent more women.”
If there’s one thing Drop Everything takes seriously, it’s the skiing. With a ripping cast featuring Michelle Parker, Elyse Saugstad, Sammy Carlson, Cody Townsend, and Chris Rubens, this film looks like a lighthearted viewing experience that still delivers on the send.

Shot in the aforementioned magical winter of 2017 in the pow zones of California, Alaska, British Columbia, the Alps, and more, you can be sure the skiing in Rogue Elements will be appropriately dreamy. Like the title suggests, it’s centered around this idea of wild adventurers who are drawn to these equally wild and raw places. They seek the edge––the imposed limits and their own––in the face of (you guessed it) rogue weather to ski dream lines. Who are “they”? Crushers like Angel and Johnny Collinson, Sammy Carlson, and Elyse Saugstad.
Since the dawn of time, everything that has lived and breathed on this planet has been subject to the whims of Mother Nature. The nature of an adventurer is inherently rogue; typically wild in character, subject to the fancy of their imagination. We are unequivocally drawn to nature’s rawest fury and deepest mysteries. These are the irreverent souls who pursue the edge.
In the winter of 2017, the magnitude of winter’s force was on full display. Telephone-pole-snapping storms pounded the Wyoming landscape. Regions to the west, recently left arid and forgotten, were gifted with unprecedented accumulation. Blizzards in Europe buried towns in an instant before disappearing just as fast, leaving the lucky few who were there to wonder if it even happened. A Bolivian expedition found grace above 18,000 feet before the elements went rogue and the humans reluctantly heeded warnings from above.
Join the TGR team as they embark on an adventure filled with fury and glory, and witness the unimaginable. Presented by REI.

'LINE OF DESCENT'
This fall, the annual tradition is back to salute the start of winter as Warren Miller Entertainment celebrate our 68th ski and snowboard film with downhill thrills, global adventure and a nod to those that taught us to slide on snow.
Snowriders are a family—one big tribe comprising of many smaller ones. Familial rites pass down through generations. Skier roots grow deep in high mountain soil. Line of Descent celebrates just that, the lineage of legendary athletes through a multi-generational cast of skiing’s icons and fresh faces, including Tommy Moe, Jonny Moseley, JT Holmes, Lexi duPont, Seth Wescott, Kalen Thorien, Marcus Caston, Jeremy Jensen, Griffin Post, and more.
This year, Volkswagen joins us as the presenting sponsor of the Line of Descent U.S. film tour. The partnership builds on the heritage and passion associated with both the Volkswagen and Warren Miller brands. Volkswagen’s partnership will grow authentically well into 2019, elevating the event experience that is the Warren Miller institution and marking the beginning of every winter season.
Ride along on a stunning cinematic journey as we travel near and far, descending some of North America’s deepest lines in Jackson Hole, Montana, Silverton, Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows, and Steamboat.
From powsurfer to splitboard, motorcycle, dogsled or snowmobile, watch as athletes chase winter along the Beartooth Pass, the French Alps, New Zealand, British Columbia, and Norway.
“This season, we explore how skiers are shaped by picking up a pair of skis for the first time,” notes producer Josh Haskins. “More often than not, it’s family who introduces us to the sport or steers us on the path towards an ongoing passion—be it a ski bum lifestyle, a professional career or simply the desire to pass on the same feeling to the next generation. There is a kinship unlike any other in the ski community, and Warren Miller is the elder, bringing generations of skiers and riders together for 68 years, and this year is no different.”
Since 1949, ski families have cheered the official kickoff of winter with the ski film company that started it all. As the family grows, the traditions grow richer. Volkswagen Presents Warren Miller’s Line of Descent will premiere worldwide in three locations on October 13, 2017: Salt Lake City, UT, Portland, OR and Bozeman, MT. Screenings will then sweep across the U.S. from October to January.
Tickets go on sale September 12, 2017; local San Francisco Bay and Tahoe Area show dates and times can be found at warrenmiller.com

The 18th movie from Level 1, “Habit,” premiers on Sept. 16 as a guide to skiing:
“There are as many paths as there are people. Some choose to be carpet salesman, others choose to be skiers. These behaviors are part of life’s routine, and consciously or not, we’re all slaves to it somehow,” write the filmmakers. “But you can’t have the result without the process; you must get up to go down. Let this be your field guide to the minutia, the frivolities and of course the addiction to pure, uncut, freedom. Go ahead, scratch that itch. Because after all, we are creatures of Habit.”
Moment Skis hosts the local premier on Sept. 22 at 7:30 p.m. featuring four breweries in the beer garden with Great Basin, Lead Dog, Mill Street Still & Brew and The Depot, along with Nomeats food truck. There will be free giveaways during the evening. The event benefits The Holland Project.

About the movie:
It’s been 67 years since ski-film pioneer Warren Miller picked up a camera to capture the wonder, the adventure, the humor and the beauty that is skiing. Since that time, Warren Miller film crews have traveled the globe—from storied slopes to hidden, snow-covered corners—to celebrate all things snowsports. Their quest has taken powder-hungry filmgoers, well, Here, There & Everywhere—and this year continues that legacy.
In this 67th annual Warren Miller film, take a freeski adventure with industry veterans Ingrid Backstrom and Wendy Fisher in Crested Butte, tour Eastern Greenland by dog sled with Seth Wescott and Rob Kingwill and follow Jess McMillan and Grete Eliassen on a Swiss holiday aboard the Glacier Express. Explore the backcountry of Western Montana’s Glacier Country with Tyler Ceccanti, Collin Collins and Keith Curtis and catch a powder day with Kaylin Richardson, Matt Elliott, Marcus Caston and the Kicking Horse ski patrol in British Columbia.
Travel along as Warren Miller Entertainment commemorates Stein Eriksen in Deer Valley, captures the big air at Boston’s Fenway Park (yes, that Fenway Park!) and rides the steeps of Squaw Valley to the big lines of Cordova, Alaska, plus much more. This year, don’t miss original ski bum and filmmaker Warren Miller himself in on-screen interviews as he spins tales of the past as only Warren can do, reminding us that through the years, these films have truly taken audiences Here, There & Everywhere.
Sponsors of the 2016 Warren Miller Film Tour include: Western Montana’s Glacier Country, Gosling’s, L.L. Bean, Moosehead, Switzerland Tourism, Helly Hansen, Korbel and SKI Magazine.
