Last time I checked, south Lake Tahoe has eight microbreweries/taphouses, there’s something for everyone who enjoys craft beer.

Here’s my two cents for why the Hangar-Taproom & Bottle Shop is among the top of this list of eight tap-houses. Hangar-Taproom & Bottle Shop is located at 2401 Lake Tahoe Boulevard in the city of South Lake Tahoe (midtown about 1 mile east of the Y), California, U.S.A.

As one pulls into the parking lot off of highway 50 you will notice a very vintage log cabin off to the left. Very good chance at one time it was inhabited with a person who was possibly one of the largest landowners in the city of South Lake Tahoe. Apparently an old chuck wagon is parked in the yard. During the winter, be prepared to ascend into the elevated parking lot level in a reasonable manner, especially without an all wheel drive/4X4 vehicle.
There are reasons it has been voted the best beer in town for three consecutive years. Is it the 30 taps and refrigerator full of 4 packs and single beers that offer an incredible variety of craft beer? The rare so-called American style stouts with chocolate, lactose, mint, cookies, etc.. can be found here on a regular basis along with the micro-brews that are more popular.

From my experience, excellent customer service from relatively young and very well informed personnel almost always. Attention to detail is a hallmark of this company that regularly upgrades their facilities. A dog and kid friendly business can have an almost dog show type atmosphere for the well behaved canines.

The multiple ethnic mobile food providers have delicious food for multiple tastes that can satisfy craft beer enthusiasts food pairings of all adult drinking ages. Spotlight I would say is the impressive oven wood fired pizza made to order with lots of fresh ingredients to choose from. Pizza pie by the slice can be ordered with a beer for a reasonable price, and it sure made my day.

Staff tends to be a younger crowd born and raised here and or relatively long time locals who look to enjoy the mountain lifestyle. An overall somewhat young, active mountain vibe is present. As for those enjoying their golden years, no worries seniors, they will put up with you. LOL hahahahahaha jk! They welcome all 🙂 but you must be of craft beer drinking age!

Indoor seating is very limited, but the heated outdoor seating greatly expands the comfort zone during these times of never ending COVID variants. The small taproom building is very homey and has a lived in look with table games available. Lots of refrigerated 4 packs and singles to go. A variety of swag such as clothing, cups, ect, good to check out and perhaps gift something to friends or family or why not treat yourself. Self love is the hallmark of attaining bliss.

During the summer there are outdoor concerts and a kinda rural park-like atmosphere with many picnic tables and seats. Parking during the summer outdoor concert series can be challenging. I like the bocce ball area and corn hole activities (with all necessary equipment provided).

When convenient I try to stop in regularly to get my craft beer fix. My favorites are the sweet stouts that seem to be very elusive at most places that serve microbrews. All in all, delicious food (sometimes during extreme weather and very slow consumer times the food will be limited to snacks inside the building) and amazing beer options for your visit to South Lake Tahoe, California experience.

Perry R. Obray grew up in Silicon Valley during the 1960s/70s; have lived in the Sierra Nevada mountain range, San Bernardino Mountains, and the Rocky Mountains, U.S.A. Skied in the 1970s/80s. Learned to snowboard in 1991. Notably, he snowboarded 500 days during his 1st four seasons, three of which were full blown El Ninos. He knows the Tahoe area much better than the San Bernardino mountains. Currently he enjoys combining his love of photography with backcountry snowshoeing and snowboarding. During his American Association of Snowboard Instructors certified snowboard instructor phase, he enjoyed going to multiple resorts for clinic-ing. You’d likely find him riding down the slopes of Heavenly mountain resort, and you’ll likely notice him indulging in his penchant for capturing an occasional photo or two (available to purchase).
