Welcome to SnowPals!

Preface: on the backend, instead of skiing/riding, much time was dedicated to writing this welcome message. Please spend some time to read it to get acquainted with how SnowPals’ forum works.

From SnowPals’ founding members:

‘We are firm believers in anything done must be done with passion and with full “Send” 😉

What brings us together is our interest if not our love of snow-sports. We only have a set number of sunrises on this earth so let’s commit to making every day genuinely memorable and most importantly to choose to be kind to each other whenever possible.

We have created the frame work to attract like-minded folks and we sincerely hope you connect with folks who share similar interests and be opened to fostering friendships; if not, at the very least, join us to connect for ride-sharing to Tahoe resorts to enjoy snow-sports.

As a founding member, I’d like to remind everyone to please keep an open mind and keep interactions on the positive/constructive/helpful side. We have a globally diverse group of people from newbie snow sports enthusiasts to experts so please be mindful and practice empathy and compassion. I’m a believer that good karma is a circle (and so is bad).

No matter where we are currently, we have all been newbies at one time.

By joining SnowPals we are hopeful you will be presented with opportunities to foster lasting friendships as you share your recreational interests and enjoy some POWDER time with a few ski and ride buddies/newfound friends 😉 ‘ Sincerely – Tim

Please carefully read our welcome message to get acquainted with how SnowPals’ forum work:

STEP 1 – If you don’t already have one, register for a Yahoo Username IF you would like to be able to read all group postings on our website based forum for ride offered or wanted and to read members’ intros posted before you had joined. Also so that you can use keyword search to read specific messages posted in the forum.

Basically, having a Yahoo Username will give you access to all features of our web based Yahoo Groups forum.

Please note: for non-Yahoo email users, group email postings will likely be filtered to your email’s spam folder so you will need to create a filter so that incoming group emails goes to an email folder you can create for this purpose – scroll down for how to steps to create a new email filter for the email service you are using.

Note that with Yahoo! Groups, it is not necessary to register for a Yahoo Username (joining with any email address is possible) to receive group email messages, however without a Yahoo Username, you will only get group messages to your email that post AFTER you had joined. Also you won’t be able to access or read a history of group message postings in our web based forum.

We recommend getting a Yahoo Username so that you can easily separate group email messages from your personal emails.

Getting a Yahoo Username is quick; get one at https://edit.yahoo.com/registration

STEP 2– Once you registered for a Yahoo Username, don’t log out of Yahoo while you check your personal email inbox for our forum invite email or use key word search to locate it: ’ ski_pal ’.

Look for this email subject line:

’ Snow_pals_dot_org has invited you to join ski_pal ‘ forum

In the email invite, click on the “Join this group” link to complete your new member registration.

With some email service such as Gmail, check your “Spam” folder if you don’t see our invite email in your inbox.

We started out using ski_pal as our name but have changed to SnowPals on our website to be inclusive of all types of snow-sports. We still keep our original ski_pal name for our forum.

>> Question:

Can I add a different email or change the current email I have registered for SnowPals’ Yahoo Groups Forum?

Yes, once you joined, login at https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/ski_pal/management/membership

1 – Then click on the edit pen icon under heading “Identity”
2 – Input the desired email you would like to use in the forum
3 – Remember to save changes

You can also change how often you receive group emails at the above link.

Please adhere to our forum rules:

This is a moderated forum which means group postings are MANUALLY approved so please be patient as our moderators will need to approve your message before it goes out to the group. Only plain text will display in the forum. No attachments allowed.

Posting spam or advertising/solicitations will immediately get you banned.

How to filter group email messages tip..

Best practices: create a folder to filter incoming group emails for easy reading and to prevent flooding of your Inbox.

Set up filters based on this keyword:

ski_pal

*** Please note WE ARE RESEARCHING FORUM SOFTWARE OPTIONS TO MIGRATE AWAY FROM YAHOO GROUPS WITHIN THE NEXT 6-10 MONTHS by 2020/21 winter season **

Since 1999 five core ski & ride buddies started the this group which went through several name changes from Bay Area Ski & Snowboard (BASS) to SkiPals to today’s SnowPals (Snow-sports + Pals to be more inclusive). 2019 is our 21st year of facilitating Lake Tahoe Rideshare / Carpool.

With Yahoo Groups announcing it is downgrading it’s Yahoo Groups services starting in mid-December, we won’t be able to use polls and upload files, etc to the forum any longer but we can still use the forum to communicate, post and read messages, etc.

Yahoo Groups is old tech and with the removal of useful forum features, it is no longer appealing so we are looking to use it until the May 2020, but for the next season, we’re looking to migrate to Google Groups or an independent forum software like https://www.vbulletin.com

If you have experience with or know of any robust/reliable forum software that have moderation features, please send us your tips/suggestions to . Advance thanks!
